Right, so you’ve sorted your student accommodation in Hull. Big tick. Now comes the bit nobody warns you about: getting ready to move in.
Plenty of students go through this exact panic every September. The good news? A bit of planning now means way less stress later.
Make a Proper Packing List
Don’t just chuck things in bags the night before (we’ve all tried it, it never works). Sit down and write it out properly. Bedding, chargers, ID, kitchen bits, toiletries. Tick things off as you pack them. It sounds boring but it saves your sanity.
Quick one people always forget: an extension lead. You’ll need it more than you think.

Sort Your Transport Early
Figure out how you’re getting your stuff to Hull (parents’ car, a van, a mate with a roof rack). Whatever the plan, lock it in early. Our student houses in Hull usually come with parking, but double-check your specific property first.
Scope Out the Area Before You Arrive
Nobody wants to wander around starving on move-in day looking for a Tesco. Find your nearest shop, café, bus stop, and decent takeaway before you get here. Hull’s got loads of good spots tucked away. Our student accommodation in Hull tends to sit close to bars, shops, and cafes, so you won’t be stuck.

Budget Like You Mean It
Rent, food, nights out, laundry, the odd 2am Deliveroo (we don’t judge). It adds up fast. Work out your budget before term kicks off, whether you’ve gone bills-included or rent-only. Freshers’ Week is brilliant, but it’ll wipe your bank account if you’re not careful.
Check What’s Already There Before You Shop
Our properties come fully furnished (think Smart TV, kitchen kit, the works), so check your inventory before buying duplicates. Then head out for the smaller stuff: storage boxes, a frying pan, fairy lights if that’s your vibe. Second-hand finds work brilliantly too, and they add character.

Learn a Few Easy Recipes
You won’t survive on pesto pasta forever (although you might try). Learn a couple of cheap, simple meals like stir fry or a one-pot curry. Stock your cupboard with pasta, rice, and tinned stuff for the first week. It means fewer panicked shop runs.
Get Friendly With Your Flatmates
Uni isn’t just lectures. Say hello early. Invite people round for a brew. Loads of our student houses in Hull have communal spaces, some even with games rooms. Use them. It’ll feel like home much quicker.

Think About Storage From Day One
Your room looks massive on the first day. It won’t stay that way. Under-bed boxes, hooks, drawer dividers, all worth getting sorted early.
